Erdek (formerly Artàke, Αρτάκη Greek) is a town and district of Balıkesir Province in the Marmara region of Turkey. The population is 20,693 (as of 2010).Located on the north coast of Gulf of Erdek at the south of the Sea of Marmara, Erdek is known as a friendly holiday destination that is popular among domestic tourists. The area has a rugged geology and topography and evergreen wooded areas. There are also large olive groves and these are very important for local people to support themselves financially. The mayor is Hüseyin Aysan (AKP).
It takes about two hours to get to Bandirma from Yenikapi, Istanbul by fast ferry. A bus will take you from Bandirma to Erdek in about 20 minutes. The nearest city is Bursa. Erdek has 2 four-stars hotels, many more bed and breakfast facilities and a wide variety of private residential properties(summer houses, villas ....) Nearly all the accommodation is a few minutes stroll from the sea. Cafes by the sea and in the town center are famous, and there are also a lot of commercial facilities in the town.
Cyzicus is a famous archaeological site that is located south-east of Erdek. During the Ottoman period, Erdek was the center of a kaza in the province of Bursa.
